Support
PrivateBooks runs on your machine, which means we can't look at your books to debug something — so a good report matters more here than it does elsewhere.
Start here
- The app has a full help centre built in — open Help in the top bar. It works offline.
- The FAQ covers importing, categorizing, backups, and what to hand your preparer.
- The deduction guides cover what's claimable in your line of work.
Email us
support@privatebooks.org — for anything that isn't a security issue.
Because your data never reaches us, please include:
- Your operating system and PrivateBooks version (the version is in the app's footer).
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
- For an import problem: the bank, and whether the file was CSV or PDF. Don't send the statement itself — a couple of rows with the amounts changed is enough.
- The app's About → Diagnostic report, which is redacted by design: it contains version and configuration details, never your transactions.

Security and privacy issues
Please report security issues privately — not in a public issue. Email security@privatebooks.org.
You'll get an acknowledgment within 72 hours. We ask for up to 90 days to ship a fix before public disclosure; almost everything will be much faster. Anything that would make the app transmit data off your machine is automatically critical — the app claims zero network calls, so any counterexample is a serious bug.
Lost your books?
We can't recover them — we never had them. That's the trade the local-first design makes. Use Back up my data regularly, and always before replacing a machine or reinstalling. PrivateBooks also keeps automatic recovery copies before any restore; they're listed on the About page.
