PrivateBooks release status
No verified public v4 installer is currently available. v4 remains in pre-release testing. Certification and the remaining public-release checks are still open. The exact frozen macOS legacy asset is available below from its restored original public release.

macOS - free legacy edition
Free · v3.4.2 · unsupported
The last free release is frozen. GitHub's recorded digest and an independent download of the original asset both match the historical SHA-256 below. No rebuilt substitute is used.
- Apple silicon Macs only. Its bundled Python runtime is built for macOS 26 or newer; earlier versions are untested
- Unsigned historical build. The first time, try to open it, then click Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security
- No updates or support; review the checksum before use
Historical asset identity
The download points to the original v3.4.2 release. GitHub's asset digest and an independent byte-for-byte download both match this recorded SHA-256. A newly rebuilt file with the same name would not be the preserved legacy release.

Where your books are stored
A local data folder holds the SQLite database, attached receipts, settings, a local signing key, and recovery data. Use the app's backup command to package a consistent database snapshot and every attachment into one versioned archive with a manifest and SHA-256 hashes. Save that archive somewhere you control.
